Originating from Bicol, Mindanao, and Visayas, the abaca is transported to Basista for mass production, and later delivered to different parts of the country for basket products. Buli, meanwhile, can be found within the area. Crafters Joy Corn Husk Products
0.00 km away

Crafting is a joy and a passion of Ms. Jocelyn "Joy" Perez, entrepreneur and owner of Crafters Joy Corn Husk Products. First-time visitors of Basista would never think that some crafting products can be made entirely from cornhusks. All her products, whether for Christmas decorations, handbags, or novelty items, are made from cornhusks and are especially handmade. Ms. Perez found that cornhusks should not be wasted and instead be used for various products to work hand in had with the town's abaca rope-making. A visionary of instilling creativity and at the same time promoting the treasures of Pangasinan, Ms. Perez continues to grow her business and her farm, and also her staff in appreciating local handmade products.

Pasima Bamboo Product Weaving
6.68 km away

Seeing a kaing or bilao woven in front of you would make you think why it is a domestic product rather than a handicraft. The Philippines is blessed with many artisans and that include very skilled weavers. In Malasiqui, Pangasinan, Barangay Pasima is known to house bamboo-weavers. They make kaing (woven bamboo basket), bilao (woven bamboo tray), and drying beds. In Pasima, bamboo-weaving is a way of life. It is a family affair - the kids are assigned in weaving the basket’s base, while the mother finish the baskets. Kids aged eight start to help in weaving, while grandmothers also do their share of weaving. Seeing weavers work with bamboo sheets is almost magical as you understand how much effort and skills are needed to create a basket that would sell for only P10 to P12. Try weaving your own bamboo basket!
