St. Dominic de Guzman Parish Church was the largest existing Catholic Church in the Philippines during the late 18th century. Built by Dominican friars in the 1500’s, the church follows a Baroque style of architecture. It was constructed with ladrillo or bricks while its top level features a painting of Saint Dominic. The church was reconstructed several times after being destroyed by fire, in 1587 and in 1718, and after a number of natural disasters. The town celebrates the Feast of St. Dominic annually every August 8.

Originally a part of San Carlos City, Mary Help of Christians Parish was then transferred to Basista as it parted with San Carlos in 1947 after having a resident priest. Pandayan Factory
8.09 km away

Did you know that the film Lord of the Rings acquired its large supply of swords from this factory? The fine metal pieces of swords are mastercrafted in Barangay Pandayan in Calasiao. It’s one of the finest pandayan factories in the Philippines, founded by former Professor Bernardo Roa in the 1970’s with a vision to provide jobs to people of his hometown. Touring this facility, visitors will see, among other things, how each sword is made by a group of three blacksmiths, alternately pounding on the heated sword in perfect timing and harmony. Today, the factory produces kitchen knives and about 100 “pandayan” or swords per day.
