St. Thomas Aquinas Parish Church | Things to do in Santo Tomas-Pangasinan
|Open:||6 AM - 6 PM|
|Address:||Carmen Alcala Road, Santo Tomas, Pangasinan|
Just how low can you go for these wooden chopping boards? Depending on the size, a jaw-dropping Php 20 per piece! Made out of mango tree trunks and shaped by local artisans, this kitchen tool is a product to scout for if you happen to swing by Brgy. Acop in Rosales, Pangasinan. You can buy these at a workshop located along the Pangasinan-Nueva Ecija Road, where aside from chopping boards, you can also place customized orders for other woodwork products such as bowls and plates.
Outside, the 120-year old parish offers a view of the past and the new, with its facade painted mint green, and the rest of the church a stark contrast of grey stone and concrete. It is said to have been erected between 1896 to 1898. In 1928, the church was included into the Diocese of Lingayen-Pangasinan and was finally declared a Diocesan Shrine in 1996. On July 16, parishioners gather to celebrate the feast day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
The legacy of Saint Anthony the Abbot Parish Church dates back to 1763, when Villasis was still a “visita”of Malasiqui. The Parish Church’s façade is concrete painted in white with faint red accents. Inside the Church’s sanctuary, sacred images of St. Anthony, Mother Mary and Jesus Christ can be found. The Church’s current building was restored in 1954 after being destroyed during the World War II. At present, the Church is an integral part of devoted Catholics’ holy pilgrimage all through the Lenten Season.
