Immaculate Conception Parish | Things to do in Umingan-Pangasinan
Umingan, then, eventually became a parish, having Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception as her patroness. However, strong the first church might have been it succumbed to the ravages of the wars that followed the Spanish -American War, the Philippine Revolution and the Filipino-American War. During the many years that followed for want of a church and due to lack of priest of their, the Umingan faithful had no priest of their own. Their spiritual needs were ministered to by the priest of San Quintin or Tayug in an unoccupied rice granary, who came to Umingan for a late mass on Sundays and holy-days of obligation. The desire for a church persisted in the hearts of the faithful so that as early as 1900 they constructed, through their own initiative, one that is roofed with abiang leaves. However, it was only in 1916 when the faithful began to have a resident priest in the person of Rev. Fr. Teodoro Tantengco as proven by the Register of Baptism in this parish. The faithful, after so many years being deprived of a shepherd, supported enthusiastically Father Tantengco’s move into good looking, semi-permanent building during the incumbency of Rev. Fr. Vicente Gabriel who worked hard for its completion. The satisfaction of having a better church did not last long, World War II broke out and the church was razed to the ground to the dismay of the priests and parishioners who built it. Father Vicente Gabriel evacuated to the barrio wherein he continued to minister unto the needs of the people in their homes. After the war in 1945, it became then the concern of all priest assigned to Umingan to build anew a decent place of worship. With the cooperation of the faithful, the present church is, therefore, a cumulative product of the effort. The following succession starts in 1916 and continue to the present. Indicated after the names of the priests who were assigned in this parish.
Rev. Fr. Teodoro Tantengco 1916 - 1919, continued building the church began by the parishioners: He was the first resident Parish Priest.

Traverse the awe-inspiring backdrop for the verdant town of Umingan, the Caraballo Mountains, and meet the townspeople’s humble waterfall—the Diket Falls. An approximately one hour hike to this waterfall showcases different sections of Mt. Caraballo trail such as a mini forest park, a pathway lined with a series of tall Talahib grasses, Bamboo tree passage, rocky riverbeds, and a stream sheltering small crabs. At the end of the trail, hikers can enjoy a fresh dip into the water, do barbecuing or execute one last push and climb to the top of the waterfall through the roots of sturdy tree covering a steep slope. The trek to Diket Falls can be physically demanding especially in summer but the chance to experience the natural beauty of this little-known part of Umingan should not be missed.
