Tanubong Broom-Making
Attraction
0.18 km away

After visiting Purok Tanubong, you will never look at walis (broom) the same way again. Tanubong, the area’s namesake, is a local grass grown in the province of Pangasinan. The brooms made using this grass is called walis Pangasinan. According to the locals, tanubong is much better than tiger grass because it is washable and much more flexible. Tiger grass is the one used to make walis Baguio or walis tambo. Walis tanubong could be comparable to a handicraft as each piece is hand-assembled. At least four people are needed to assemble the broom. The brooms are sold at P50 to P150 per piece. Purok Tanubong is known to be a place of broom-makers. Their products are sold locally in their town and nearby provinces such as Tarlac and La Union.

Shellflex Food Products
Attraction
0.34 km away

A trip to Bayambang, Pangasinan will not be complete without a taste of its infamous buro - a mix of fermented rice and fish. Buro-making is no a walk in the park even if it has only three ingredients: salt, rice, and fish. It is a very delicate process that takes about three weeks. The fish used - dalag, tilapia, or gurami - are all sourced locally. Shellflex Food Products showcases a modern day buro-making process with the help from the Pangasinan State University. Modernizing their buro is not just about new equipment. Shellflex learned how to make the buro less pungent while maintaining its flavor. The secret, they said, was removing the fish head in the process. Sauteed buro is best served as side dish of steamed vegetables and fried fish.

Fallorina Orthopedic Practitioner
Attraction
2.52 km away

Back pain? Upgrade your massage or hilot for a chiropractor session with Fallorina Orthopedic Practitioner in Bautista, Pangasinan. Ortho therapist Rime Fallorina, also known as Tatay Rime, treats various muscle, nerve, and bone problems while listening to the limb’s “echo” using only his stethoscope. A session with the 67 year old lasts for about 5 to 10 minutes, which includes some bone-cracking stretching. A session costs P300 to P600 depending on your case. During his clinic days, Mondays and Thursday, about 25 to 40 people line up. They are mostly from nearby towns and provinces. Tatay Rime’s medical knowledge came from his father, who studied in the US as an orthopedic doctor. He was assisting his father since he was 12 years old. And like a family tradition, he is passing his knowledge to his younger son as well.
